Rebecca Pow, Member of Parliament for Taunton Deane, is delighted that the Government is to provide £7.1million of funding for a Queue Prevention Scheme between Junctions 24 and 25 of the M5. The Government is committed to road improvements that cut congestion, increase safety and help boost the local economy.
The funding is part of a £220million package aimed at easing congestion on the Strategic Road Network. As part of the Congestion Relief Programme the Government is spending a total of £19.7million on four M5 schemes in the South West and £12.4million on smaller projects to relieve congestion, bringing the overall investment in the region to £32.1million. Work on the enhancement schemes between Junctions 23 and 24 and Junctions 24 and 25 is due to start in summer 2019 and be completed by spring 2020.
Commenting on the announcement, Rebecca said:
‘I am pleased that this Government has listened to my calls, together with that of others locally, for the roads network in the South West to receive the attention it needs. Roads Minister, Andrew Jones, confirmed the £7.1million in conversation with me this week reiterating that this stretch of the M5 was a priority for the Government and improvements will be taking place at various points on the M5 from Junction 17 to Junction 25.
Central Government has committed significant funds to help support increased development in and around Taunton recently and these enhancements schemes will relieve congestion on the motorway and make journeys faster and more reliable for everyone, while boosting the local economy’.
