Taunton Deane Borough Council has welcomed the Government announcement that credit card fees on transactions will be outlawed from January 2018.
The Council does not impose any charges on customers using credit or debit cards to pay for bills or other transactions even though card companies do charge a fee.
“We want to make payments as easy as possible for our customers, especially those on low or fixed incomes,” said Conservative Councillor Richard Parrish, whose Corporate Resources portfolio includes finance matters.
“As a Council we wholeheartedly welcome that rip-off credit card fees are being abolished and agree with the sentiments that such fees can be a nasty and unwelcome surprise for customers using a card.”
